In 2010, President of the Los Angeles City Council has in mind to create an independent, private commission where they will study and report on the status and job growth in Los Angeles at least until in the year 2020. In order to do that they asked a man who can help them, one of the best lawyer in Los Angeles and a former US Trade Representative, George McKinley. The Mayor of Los Angeles agreed to this project and he also endorsed the establishment of the Commission to the local and government officials.
To make the commission possible, George McKinley call the leaders of the Los Angeles community to serve on the commission as volunteers. Every representative who joined was residing in all parts of the Los Angles community and has been active in many forms of labor, business, government, and the non-profit world. Each member of the Commission also cares deeply about the city of Los Angeles and has a desire to make LA be one of the great cities in the world.
When the Commission established meetings and hearings with the representatives of each institution in the city, they were held numerous times. The outcome has been published in the first report in the first month of 2011. We reported about the challenges and opportunities the city of Los Angeles faces nowadays. After that, we also published the LA 2020 Commission which contains reports about the series of concrete measures of transparency and accountability in Los Angeles City Hall that creates a path toward the stability and creation the jobs in the city.
We are hoping that the commission we have started will continue until in the next generation so that we can keep track and report the status of job growth in the city of Los Angeles.
